Marguerite Johnson (April 4, 1928 – May 28, 2014), better known as Maya Angelou, is an American author and poet who has published six autobiographies, five books of essays, several books of poetry and is credited with a list of plays, movies and television shows spanning more than fifty years.

Although she has never been on Saturday Night Live, she has been impersonated by David Alan Grier on January 18, 1997 during the "Maya Angelou for Butterfinger," "Maya Angelou for Froot Loops!" and "Maya Angelou for Pennzoil" filmed commercial sketches, by Tracy Morgan on November 14, 1998 during the "VH1 Spirituality Awards" sketch and on January 12, 2002 during the Weekend Update segment, by Kenan Thompson on May 20, 2006 during the "Oprah Winfrey's Legends Ball Special" sketch and on October 10, 2009 during the Weekend Update segment and by Maya Rudolph on February 18, 2012 during the "Maya Angelou's: I Know Why the Caged Bird Laughs!" filmed commercial sketch.
