(Season 12)

The 213th episode of Saturday Night Live and the season finale of Season 11 premiered on May 24, 1986, hosted by actress Anjelica Huston & Major League Baseball second baseman and manager of the New York Yankees Billy Martin with musical guest George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic. This is the only musical guest appearances on SNL for George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic and the only time hosting for both Anjelica Huston and Billy Martin.

This is Joan Cusack, Robert Downey, Jr., Anthony Michael Hall, Don Novello, Randy Quaid, Terry Sweeney, and Danitra Vance's final episode as cast members. Only A. Whitney Brown, Nora Dunn, Jon Lovitz, and Dennis Miller returned for Season 12.

Novello (who previously was in the cast during the 1979-80 season, and who initially joined the writing staff in 1978 during season 3), leaves after two accumulative seasons in the cast, and 3½ accumulative seasons as a writer.

Everyone else who was fired only lasted a single season.

It was also the only appearance for Al Franken this season (himself at this point an on-and-off featured player, and writer for the show since 1975, except for 1980-1985). Franken returned to the writer's room the very next season, and while he would continue to make uncredited appearances throughout the next few seasons, he would not receive onscreen credit again until 1988.

The only episode of the season to credit Al Franken as a featured player, and Damon Wayans was credited as a featured player for this episode, despite being fired two months earlier, as he was invited back to do stand-up for the finale. Novello is credited as his popular character 'Father Guido Sarducci', and this is the final episode for every single cast member listed here, except for Lovitz, Miller, Dunn, Brown, and Franken (who returned to the show's writing staff the next season, and returned to being credited in 1988).

In this one, Lorne only chooses to save Jon Lovitz, and lets the rest of the cast burn. Naturally, this is the final sketch for every cast member featured here, except for Lovitz, Nora Dunn, Dennis Miller, and Al Franken.

Trivia[]

  • This was also initially the final episode for longtime director Dave Wilson. Wilson (who had directed the show since it's debut in 1975), initially departed from the show after 11 years.
    • However, after a three-year absence, Wilson returned to the show at the start of it's 15th season in 1989.
