Jacob "Jake" Gyllenhaal (born December 19, 1980) is an American actor best known for his roles as Donald J. "Donnie" Darko in the 2001 fantasy and comedy-drama film of the same name, Jack Twist in the 2005 romantic drama film Brokeback Mountain, Robert Graysmith in the 2007 mystery film Zodiac, Prince Dastan in the 2010 Disney fantasy adventure film Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Jamie Randall in the 2010 romantic comedy film Love and Other Drugs and as Capt. Colter Stevens in the 2011 science fiction techno-thriller film Source Code.

Further acclaim came with his roles in Denis Villeneuve's thrillers Prisoners (2013) and Enemy (2013), and he received nominations for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performances as a manipulative journalist in Nightcrawler (2014) and a troubled writer in Nocturnal Animals (2016). His highest-grossing release came with the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero film Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), in which he portrayed Quentin Beck / Mysterio.

He has recently starred in the 2022 film Ambulance.

He made his hosting debut Saturday Night Live on January 13, 2007, the tenth episode of Season 32, with musical guest The Shins.

He made cameos on September 29, 2007, during the SNL Digital Short and on April 2, 2011, during the Weekend Update segment. On February 29, 2020, he appeared in the Airport Sushi Sketch as the "The Guy who travels in Pajamas' and sang "Defying Gravity" from "Wicked."

He returned to Saturday Night Live for the 2nd time on April 9, 2022, with musical guest Camila Cabello.
