Burton Leon "Burt" Reynolds (February 11, 1936 – September 6, 2018) was an American actor, director, and voice actor. Some of his notable roles include Bo 'Bandit' Darville in Somkey and the Bandit, Lewis Medlock in Deliverance, J. J. McClure in The Cannonball Run and its sequel Cannonball Run II, Bobby "Gator" McCluskey in White Lightning and its sequel Gator, Charlie B. Barkin in All Dogs Go to Heaven, Paul Crewe then Coach Nate Scarborough in The Longest Yard and Jack Horner in Boogie Nights. He died of a heart attack on September 6, 2018, aged 82.
He had hosted Saturday Night Live on the April 12, 1980 episode and has been impersonated multiple times, most notably by Norm MacDonald in the "Celebrity Jeopardy!" sketches. In those sketches, he would change his name to “Turd Ferguson”, which he found funny, and often find oversized hats, which he also found funny.
Quotes (from SNL)[]
- "Uhh, that's not my name."
- "Yeah, Turd Ferguson. Funny name."
- "It's funny because it's bigger than a normal hat."
- "Sorry I'm late, I had to pick up my podium...from the ground."
