Mike O'Brien (full name Michael Patrick O'Brien, born June 22, 1976) is an American writer and comedian who is currently a writer on Saturday Night Live. He joined the cast as a writer for its 35th season and was a featured player for its 39th season. He was dropped from the cast after one season and returned to the writers room, authoring "Mike O'Brien Production" pretaped videos that showed throughout season 40. He left as a writer at the end of that season, but stated the pretaped shorts would continue.[1]

O'Brien has been romantically linked to costar Cecily Strong.[2]

  • O'Brien is the first writer to be upgraded to cast member status since 2005, when Jason Sudeikis joined the cast after joining SNL as a writer in 2003. 
  • O'Brien has made several appearances in several NBC produced shows, and segments. He also appeared as the doorman of the Five-Timers Club in season 38
  • Like many SNL cast members and writers, he is an alumnus of The Second City in Chicago. 
  • At age 37, O'Brien was the oldest cast member in season 39. 
  • Attended the University of Michigan prior to pursuing his endeavors. 
  • Hosted an online show on Above Average called "7 Minutes in Heaven".
