The twelfth episode of Season 20 and the 378th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on February 11, 1995, hosted by actor and comedian Bob Newhart, star of the classic TV sitcoms such as The Bob Newhart Show (1972-1978), Newhart (1982-1990), and Bob (1992-1993), with musical guest Des'ree, and a special guest appearance by Bob's former co-star Suzanne Pleshette as Emily Hartley from The Bob Newhart Show (1972-1978), in which Bob Newhart reprised the role of Dr. Robert Hartley; a Chicago psychologist who wakes up from a dream after hosting "SNL". This is Bob Newhart's 2nd hosting stint and his first appearance in 14 years, 9 months and a day. He previously hosted SNL back on the May 10, 1980 episode, the eighteenth episode of SNL's 5th season, with musical guests Amazing Rhythm Aces and Bruce Cockburn. This is also the only musical guest appearance for Des'ree on the show.

Bob Newhart's goodnights speech is "I Had a Great Time, Did You Have a Great Time Tonight? (Audience cheers and applause) Des’ree!.
