Dennis Michael Miller (born November 3, 1953) is a satirical comic who was a long-running anchor of Weekend Update. Unlike most other commentators, Miller was largely relegated to that part as Lorne Michaels wanted Miller to focus all his attention on joke writing and use of his satire for that key sketch. However, Dennis Miller would sometimes be found in bit parts in other sketches, such as the fake commercials. In the 1991 season finale, Dennis was speaking with Lorne Michaels about leaving the show and commenting how he always wanted to introduce the show, to which Michaels says go ahead and do it, prompting Miller to state "Live from New York, it's Saturday night!" When the show does not start, Miller comments that that must be overrated and leaves, prompting Michaels to make the real "stopping introduction".
