The 10th episode of Season 40 and the 1776th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on December 20, 2014, hosted by actress Amy Adams, star of the Disney's films The Muppets, Enchanted and the sequel Disenchanted, as well as the hit films, Junebug, Doubt, The Fighter, The Master, American Hustle, Big Eyes, Arrival and Vice, with musical guests One Direction, an English-Irish pop boy band. This is Amy Adams' 2nd time as the host and her first appearance in 6 years, 9 months, and 12 days. She last hosted SNL back on the March 8, 2008 episode, the seventh episode of SNL's 33rd season, with musical guest Vampire Weekend.
This is also One Direction's 3rd and final musical guest appearance on SNL.
