Saturday Night Live Wiki

Saturday Night Live's producers, especially Lorne Michaels, have famously and dramatically banned for life several celebrities from ever appearing on the television show. Reasons for these bans vary, as sometimes they can be seen as a rational response to a star's grossly innappropriate on-stage behavior, while at other times the reasons are harder to understand as they stem from far more mild, or even superficial transgressions. The blacklist has been subject to rumor mill over the years. Although he was touted as such, in actuality Andrew Dice Clay was never banned from SNL. Dice had hosted the show in 1990. At the time, he had been riding on a wave of rough comedy and there was a huge fan protest against his invitation, with it going so far as female cast members being subject to harrassing calls from feminists calling them "traitors" for agreeing to do the show. Despite the uproar, Dice had hosted SNL as scheduled and the show occurred without incident.
